Winter Sunset at Centennial Park

Here is a painting I have been working off and on since January. After changing the sky three times, changing the field three times, reworking on the trees numerous times and altering the paths I have finally called it done, or at least run out of steam. Maybe later I'll change it again.

A Sorolla copy

I am much enamored with Sorolla's paintings and decided to do a copy of one of his still life paintings. His painting is called "White Roses from the Garden of my House". The original is around 37" x 25". My copy is a small one, around 14" x 10", less than one half as big. It was a lot of fun to do. Makes me want to do more floral still life paintings.

Tree Sketches

I set out to do a bunch of tree study quick sketches. The point here was to work on trees. Here's how some of these turned out.
Most are small, 6 x 8 or so.

A Rainy Day

I went out to paint last week on a rainy day. I ended up painting in the car as the rain just kept coming down. There was a nice atmospheric look to everything and I ended up working on a view out the side window of some trees and fields to the north with layers of trees and hillsides in the distance. I am trying to work larger at plein air so this is an 11 x 14.

Along a farm road

Here's a small plein air I did in April along a farm road. I liked how the trees and hillside looked and the whole atmosphere of the scene. This is not the most successful painting but there is something here that I like and I plan to do a larger version with some changes to the composition.
