Left Hand Canyon - Snowmelt Time

I went back to Buckingham Park to paint water again. Now that spring is here the snowmelt season is starting and the water is pretty high and fast.  I've been having a good time painting the water there and so far have done 5 paintings of the stream. Not all of them turned out that well but it sure is fun to try painting the moving water. Right now the water is high and furious, since we had a few days of warmer weather and a lot of days of rain, and the river is really full.

Another painting from the Million Dollar Road

This is another studio painting done from photos taken along Red Mountain Pass. This was an area further up near the top of the pass where the road takes switchbacks through mixed aspen and evergreen forest and gives a panoramic view of the San Juan Mountains. These mountains are the youngest mountain range in the US and are the most rugged.
