Mountain Flowers
July is when spring really comes to the mountains. The fresh green-ness doesn't last long and by August most of the flowers are done, so getting up there in early July is essential if you want to find flowers before it all dries out and turns hot. Here's a painting I did once again near Beaver Reservoir, at a spot along the road that has become one of my favorite places to paint. It has such a variety of terrain. There's an aspen grove, a rocky hillside with ponderosas and aspen, and down below a wetland with large willows and some beaver ponds farther down. I've painted there several times this spring. This time the flowers were all in bloom. I did two paintings on this trip. This is the first.
