A New Start
I did this painting at dawn on December 31, at Pella Crossing. I thought it was appropriate to do a sunrise painting at the cusp of a new new year, hoping that it would indeed be a better year and a new start after all the trials we've gone through in 2020.
It was pretty cold out and I elected to do this one inside the car. The colors in the sky were great. On some mornings there is no color at all, no interesting clouds at sunrise, but I lucked out on this day. It was also fortunate that we still had a little snow and ice around from a snowfall a couple days earlier in the week. It reminded me that although getting up that early and dealing with the cold, I am always rewarded for my effort by seeing something beautiful that I would have missed and never experienced.
A New Start, 9 x 12.
